Whenever my grand father sees a doctor, my aunt would carry lot of papers, radiology report, prescription, etc . I always wonder what all of those papers. Last visit to the neurologist I went with my aunt and my grand father to listen in. My grand father is seeing 3 different doctors due to his health conditions, a urologist, a cardiologist and a neurologist , there is no universal patient record to store all his data and his scans or his medication. So whenever he sees one of them he has to carry all his updated documents to share the info and to avoid medication conflict. Those are private doctors that you have to see if you don’t have insurance but as there is no health record for patients or a system that save your medical record and allow sharing, it is hard to go around without actual papers. My parents have dual insurance in the US and they see different doctors in different institutions but because of the e-health system and the option of sharing medical history , they never had the issue of having to remember medications or memorizing different conditions. I guess some privileges you take for granted till you see the opposite side. Next time we see the doctor with my grand father I will be the paper carrier and help him to memorize his medications too…
