That was really shocking for me, friend of my mom was in the hospital and in need of blood. The norm is the hospital would provide blood but I found the whole family and friends rallying on Facebook and over the phone asking relatives and friends to go to the hospital and donate blood. This was a government run hospital, not sure if this is a case in private hospital where if you don’t have adequate insurance, it will cost you a fortune to get treatment there. I know that there is ERC (Egyptian red crescent ) the equivalent of Red Cross in the US organize blood drives but apparently it is not a big thing or people aren’t aware of its role in blood donation drives. It is scary just thinking that you might need blood and you and your family is responsible to supply it.
