The lifetime of cars in Cairo, Egypt can span generations. This is not a joke my grandparents still keep their 1970 Seat nd a Lada car, fortunately my grandparents don’t drive now, so we wont have to worry about smog problem for their almost half a century cars. The issue is many old cars in the busy streets of Cairo , are ejecting smog into the air adding to its pollution. Theoretically, there is some sort of smog test when you renew the car license but not sure how come the number of smog emission car is pretty large. Inhaling smog irritates the airways, increasing the risk of serious heart and lung diseases. Because of these health risks the latest I heard during my last visit to Egypt that the smog level is monitored and new laws will restrict old cars from the streets of Cairo.
