It was a quiet Friday morning in my grandparents house in Cairo. Friday is a holiday in Cairo and usually it is the day when all family gather for special breakfast followed by Gomaa prayers. My grandpa ,who has Coronary artery disease, felt chest pain. I expected them to call service for emergency services like 911, my aunt said yes yo can call 122 and most probably they would be here in hours. I really didn’t understand how come emergency service and take hours to arrive. My aunt and mom decision to transport my grandpa to the nearest hospital, thankfully it was Friday early morning and the streets were empty, they were able to reach emergency at the hospital in 15 minutes. My grandpa spent the night in the hospital for checkup and monitoring and went back home safe. I am glad that my grandpa is ok but the idea that you really cant get emergency service like 911 in a life threatening situation and the whole dependency that someone else in the house can transport the patient is scary. What if we shouldn’t have moved him or he fell taking him down the stairs for three floors.
